I'm beginning to think the answer is an unequivocal 'yes'. Is it really necessary for a music producer to move down to Sydney or Melbourne just to find singer/songwriters to collaborate with? I've been through the trials and tribulations of putting bands together, then tackled the subsequent challenge of trying to keep line-ups cohesive for more than six months and it's not my scene anymore.
It's not that I don't ever want to have a live band again. I just think there might be more success in approaching the creation of a body of musical work from the model of a songwriting duo, with a view to recruiting a full band once the foundations are laid.
How is it that so many successful bands and artists have emerged from Brisbane in past decades, yet there seems to be a lack of interest now? Not to discount all the currently established bands doing great work in Brisbane's live music circuit - not at all. However growth seems to be on a sharp decline.
